Review: Urban Revolution Live - Tony Supreme, Ojerime, PBGR, Oscar #WorldPeace and Miraa May
Urban Revolution is an online medium for entertainment they recently held an event called Urban Revolution Live which was held at Alley Cat Bar and Club.
The night consisted of some of the UK's biggest emerging talent including PBGR, Miraa May, Tony Supreme, Oscar #WorldPeace, Ojerime, Malick IV and Hydrd.
Unfortunately I didn't get to see all of the acts performances but I did catch majority of the show. I really did enjoy all of the acts they all had something different to offer the audience which shows a promising rise in the UK's urban music scene.
Tony Supreme is a spoken word artist, he touched upon subjects to do with life, lust, love and everything in between.
The subtleness of in his words is what was able to captivate the audience, he didn't need to go in to full detail. He was able to use the correct wording to paint a picture of what he was saying. After the performance Tony Supreme gave us a bit of background in to his journey into spoken word. I liked the fact that Urban Revolution gave each artist the chance to give a profile about themselves. I think this helps in understanding the inspiration behind the vision the artist has. To my surprise when Tony Supreme was talking about his vision and background, he spoke about the fact that he also does motivational speaker. I had a listen to his SoundCloud and subscribed because he speaks so well on life's journeys Tony Supreme's SoundCloud
Following on from Tony Supreme was Ojerime I throughly enjoyed her performance. Judging on appearance I didn’t think she would have such a powerful voice, due to her being quite small. Her voice is amazing, she holds her notes so well and knows how to control her sound. She performed a few covers and music she had written which I loved. A friend of mine said that she reminded them of the late Princess of RnB Aaliyah. She appears small and a little shy although she has such a beautiful and powerful voice.
When PBGR graced the stage I was excited, they offer the crowd a different vibe when their on stage. They brought on Mo, Mike Bagz and Miraa May to perform some of the songs taken of their album The Black Market. During their performance I often heard people speak highly of their album and performance. I think my favourite part of their performance was when they performed SMW with Mike Bagz.
Oscar #WorldPeace is definitely an artist that offers you a performance different from the norm. He arrived on stage in an orange prison jumpsuit with what looked like bandages wrapped around him. I was in complete shock, he was the only performer to wear a costume firstly and secondly his lyrical content was quite angered. However I actually enjoyed it his performance, because it was so different he kept my interest.
Last but not least Miss Miraa May stole the show, I loved her performance not because she has an amazing voice but she has character. Whilst performing she gave an introduction to each song and we were able to see her personality. She spoke about her guitar, musical direction and life. It was nice to see personality and charisma in a performance. We also got to meet her alter ego Mizla May, who raps and will clash anybody.
Overall this was a great night at Urban Revolution Live, not only did they have great talent they had networking opportunities. Whether your an artist or just a fan of music Urban Revolution Live will be a night you'll enjoy!

One To Watch: Irish Rapper Rejjie Snow by Victor (Guest Writer)
Ever heard of heard of Rejjie Snow guys? No? Then you better get listening. Rejjie Snow (Alex Anyaegbunam), is an Irish rapper from Dublin. I know what you are thinking what does Ireland have to offer in terms of rapping, well you my friend are in for a treat.
This discovery came about after an hour of searching online for some talented underground rappers, who: one didn’t come from London and two whose name was not associated with ‘young’ in some way.If that’s not news enough, a rapper …….from Dublin, he is also signed to Elton John, yes I said Elton John .Yes the same Elton with the shades, who always seems to be accompanied by his piano.
After giving his music a listen I call him the Rejjie the ‘Irish Tyler' * Tyler the creator that is * This is because just like Tyler he adopts a somewhat dark tonality to a lot of his music, along with the recurring spooky voice that they both infuse into their rhymes.
The first visual, which caught my eye was his video for ‘Lost in Empathy ‘which seems to centre on the persecution of Albinos in Tanzania.
Suffice to say this MC isn’t going to be rapping about blunts and waking up in a new Bugatti. He gives a more diverse array of topics, which is one the reasons I focused on him. In an interview with ‘Noisey’ magazine he openly admits to wearing fake Gucci shoes saying “I can’t afford the real shit yet, so why lie” if only I had that same mentality in year 9(lol) but is this honest, blunt demeanour which he seems to evoke was a primary reason for me being able to connect with his music.
I would advise you all to give’ Rejovich’ a listen, that’s his debut EP. The opening track ‘Loveleen’ starts with a loop of ‘Money, Bitches, Hoes, Greed, Pussy, Lord knows’. This would be a starter kit for rappers in regards to topics to focus on. I really enjoy what he does with this song because instead of stereotypical gangster rap, associated with these type of topics he takes a different approach. Intricate wordplay and conceptual metaphors Rejjie does well in giving us a better insight into him as a character.
I for one cannot wait to see what he has up his sleeve next.

Album Review: Teyana Taylor - VII
Def Jam artist Teyana Taylor recently released her album VII, It's an RnB album in all essences. The album has features from Chris Brown, Pusha T, Fabolous and Yo Gotti but each artist compliments the song well.
I have been following Teyana Taylor's career for many years, from when she first appeared on MTV's Sweet Sixteen. Teyana Taylor in my opinion is an artist who is highly under rated, when Teyana first came out with songs like "Google Me" she excited us. Although I wasn't a great fan of the song, she had confidence and brought a new energy to female rap music.
This subtle confidence is still something that is evident in Teyana's music, in this album she talks about relationships, love, lust and everything in between. Her tones and diction on the songs allows you to hear how in control she is of her voice.
I have a few songs on the album that I like, but my favourites would be Just Different, Broken Hearted Girl, Put Your Love On and Maybe.
Just Different is the first song on the album, it's smooth sounding RnB, music you can chill out and relax to. It's a great song to introduce us to this body of work, it sets the pace for the album.
Broken Hearted Girl is one of my favourites simply because of the Fabolous feature. He brings a dynamic energy to the song, witty lines and references to hashtags which just add a bit of intensity.
Put Your Love On, the beat alone made me want to stand up and dance. A slightly more up tempo song with a sound that reminds me of an exotic island. Put Your Love On makes you want to sway from side to side, enjoy and get lost in the music.
Maybe, out of all my favourites on the album Maybe is my all time favourite. The catchy chorus and the features from Yo Gotti and Pusha T make it even greater. Maybe the racy yet creative video also helps in making it my favourite.
My only critique is that I wish we could have heard more range from Teyana, a lot of the songs were very slow. Teyana Taylor's journey to making this album has taken 7 years, it would have been nice to hear something that represented the journey her sound has been through. Besides from that I really enjoyed VII and hope to see more creative videos off the album.
