Banky W's artist and E.M.E's First Lady Niyola chats with BloTV

Hey Guys,

I was flicking through music videos on YouTube and I came across the lovely and talented E.M.E's First Lady Niyola's music video "Toh Bad" I instantly loved it!! Catchy beat, engaging music video and great song.

Niyola is signed to Banky W's record label Empire Mates Entertainment she is label mates with stars like Wiz Kid, Skales and Shaydee, I was interested in her relationship with them. Niyola explained to me that her label mates are like brothers to her, they're very protective over her when she is talking to guys "especially Shaydee and the boss Banky".

After the introductions and her giving me the gist on her relationship with her famous label mates, we got stuck in to the music side.Toh Bad was a song that generated Niyola a lot of success, the video explores the trials and tribulations of relationships- when someone in the relationship gets famous and the other person can't handle the fame that comes with it. I was eager to know if this was based on a true story, I asked Niyola if she has experienced this in relationships. She explained to me that it was "partly true, but not entirely it steams from emotions that I felt at that moment"

Comparing Niyola's music to other African artist is hard, she has a varied sound. If you listen to "Toh Bad" you might feel like crying, it's music you sing in the shower or listen to after an argument with your partner. However "Crazy" is completely different it makes you dance, jump around, it strikes a feeling of happiness in your heart. I asked her about her varied sound, she had this to say "I just try to picture what I want the listener to feel with each song and that inspires the sound, lyrics and beat".

Since we are still in the first half of the year, I wanted to find out what music we can expect from Miss Nini for the rest of this year.  Well from what she told me we can expect a lot from Niyola-more singles, features and hopefully an album.

It seems like 2014 is going to be a busy year for the singer, aspiring to work with some of greatest in the industry including "Justin Timberlake, Pharell Williams, Waje, Don Jazzy, Beyonce and R.Kelly" we may find an interesting surprise when we hear her album.

The Nigerian music industry doesn't have a lot of mainstream female artist, I asked Niyola on her thoughts. She said "When I started out there was only three of us, there's an increase in the number, a great improvement". Niyola had some advice for females trying to get into the industry "be sure of your strengths, try not to do anything because someone else did or is doing it. Be versatile and stay positive as a lot will try to drag you down. It's a lot of pressure".

After giving out some great advice for industry newbies, she had a message for her fans, "I am grateful to have your support and to always put God first because I do".

She recently released a cover of Beyonce's "Drunk In Love" which has received a massive reception in Nigerian, take a listen!
