The UK Mavin Concert [Review]

The Mavin's were in town this past week and they definitely gave us 'doro mega superstar' performances. For those that don't know who the Mavin's are, its a record label started by Nigerian producer Don Jazzy who has worked with the likes of Jay Z, Kanye West and D'banj. Don Jazzy then added Dr Sid, Tiwa Savage and D'Prince to his label which is what Mavin consisted of up until early this year. Don Jazzy then went on to sign Di'Ja, Korede Bello and Reekado Banks.

I throughly enjoyed the concert, prior to the Mavin's performance they had a few UK acts open up for them including Mazi Chukz and LTEE and Tilla. 

Tiwa Savage was the first act to grace the stage from the Mavin camp. She had everyone on their toes performing some of her biggest hits including 'Kele Kele', 'Love Me' x 3 as well as her latest single 'My Darlin'. Tiwa Savage knows how to get the crowd hyped up, I often found myself dancing and singing from the top of my lungs to her songs. 

Following on from Tiwa Savage was Dr Sid, the Baby Torando singer knows how to put on a performance and give a great show. When Dr Sid performed one of my favourite Afrobeats songs 'Surulere' with Don Jazzy I was so happy. It was full of energy and great stage presence. He came out in a black robe, danced and hyped up the crowd. In my opinion it was one of the best performances of the night. 

Dr Sid then introduced Korede Bello who some are describing as the Justin Bieber of Africa. His soft melodies and charming charisma had females in the audience screaming his name and swaying from side to side as he sang.

Di'Ja and Reekado Banks also gave a really great performance, I was unaware that Reekado could dance so well. He was up and down the stage free styling some moves as well as dancing in time with his back up dancers.

Don Jazzy performed alongside all of the Mavin members, the crowd including myself screamed every time he came out. Every song Don Jazzy has featured on with a member of his Mavin crew has been a great hit including one of his latest song Adaobi. 

To close the show the Mavin's performed their biggest collective hit Dorobucci, the concert was really good. It hit it's peak during Dr Sid performance. I think they've shown that the Mavin's are here to make a great impact in not just African music but music in general. 

Westfield Music Cube Preview Party

Westfield's are launching a new concept called Music Cube. Music Cube is about changing the way we hear music and enjoy music. The cube is a soundproof box that has an artist performing in it, the only way to hear the artist is through Sennheiser headphones.

I throughly enjoyed my Music Cube experience. On arrival I was greeted and offered some champagne. After walking around a bit taking pictures I was greeted by a representative from Sennheiser. She was really friendly and invited me to try out their recently launched Urbantie headphones. At first glance I thought they looked nice but were very big however when I put them on they weren't big at all. I just needed to adjust the sides a bit to fit my headshape. Once on I began to love them, very soft and comfortable on the ears. Intially they were connected to an Ipod so I pressed play and listened, the heaphones were good but the music on the Ipod wasn't to my taste, so I couldn't get the full experience. I asked the Sennheiser rep if I could connect it to my phone which is an Andriod phone. Once connected to my phone and playing my music I had a better experience with the  headphones. I put the volume on full blast and zoned out! The only downside to the Urbantie headphones is that their specfic to brands for example if you have an Andriod device you buy the Urbantie headphone for Andriod. As well as this I wasn't a fan of the colour, but was told they come in multiple colours and sizes so that isn't really a negative.

Following on from that I went on to take some 'Ear love' selfies in Sennheiser selfie booth which was fun.

By now the Music Cube experience was in full swing. We were given Sennheisser  headphones to enjoy the performance by headline act Professor Green. I still find it amazing how Westfield's came up with concept, the headphones were not connected to the cube at all yet you could still hear the performances clearly with perfect sound.

Music Cube will be at both Westfield's over the next two weeks with nummerous acts performaning. I would advise everyone to head to the nearest Westfield's and enjoy the experience.

Concert Diaries: Pharrell William's 'Dear Girl' Tour

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending Pharrell's 'Dear Girl' tour at The O2 Arena and I had an amazing time.

I think this was my favourite concerts of this year, not only did Pharell perform songs off his latest album 'G I R L' , but also some of his songs with N.E.R.D. 

A lot of people think that Pharrell is a new artist which he mentioned whilst on stage, however true Hip Hop/Pharell fans know that his career has spun over 10 years. 
One of my all time favourite Pharrell songs would be 'I just wanna love you' which he featured on in 2009. When he performed the chorus the levels of my excitement went through the roof. Although it was clear that a lot of the crowd weren't aware of what the song was, they jumped and shared in the excitement. This could be due to Pharrell's band and dancers who were very lively and energetic. It was almost as if the band and dancers were giving you a show also.

During the interval Pharell's dancers 'The BAES' performed with backing music of songs that Pharell had featured/produced including Drop Like Its Hot by Snoop Dog, Blurred Lines By Robin Thicke and Can I Have It Like That? Feat Gwen Stafani.

Another highlight from the show was when Pharrell performed 'Frontin', I enjoyed this performance because Frontin is the song that solidified my interest Pharell's music. He performed it exactly the way he sang it when it was released it in 2003, high energy but smooth and controlled.

To close the show he performed his biggest hit to date, Happy, the song that automatically makes you smile. As he performed confetti flew in the air and his last words were along the lines of love life and be happy.

All in all I would rate the show very highly, great energy and great music. Pharrell showed the growth he's had in his career. Over the past decade Pharrell has brought out great hits and its nice to see him finally getting the credit he deserves.

Westfield launches the Music Cube - MNEK First Announced Act

Westfield is contributing in the change of music consumption with their latest idea Westfield Music Cube. Music Cube will feature at Westfield White City(24-26th October) and Westfield Stratford City (31st October - 2nd November)

Westfield Music Cube offers musicians and fans the chance to enjoy music in a way which has never been done before. Imagine your favourite artist or band performing live in a sound proof glass cube and the only way to listen to the performance is through Senheiser Urbanite headphones.

Grammy-nominated British singer-songwriter and record producer MNEK is the first act to be announced for Westfield’s Music Cube. With an artist like MNEK already announced as a confirmed act we can expect a soulful and energetic performance. MNEK has written and produced number 1 hits for several artist including X-Factor's Little Mix. MNEK will perform at Music Cube on Saturday 25 October at 7pm at Westfield White City.

Across the two weekends you can expect a great range in emerging and breakthrough A-list talent. There will also be continued performances on the Westfield Presents stages. Westfield Presents is another great platform that Westfield has at their White City Shopping Centre, giving emerging talent a stage to perform. Performers at Westfield Presents have gone on to perform at Wembley Arena.

I think that Music Cube and Westfields Presents are great ways for talent to get themselves out there in the public eye. Even if your not a musician and a fan of great music and entertainment Westfield Music Cube is something you'll enjoy.

Art Meets Music: Koby Martin, Marco Polo, Samuel King & More Creativity

This edition of Art Meets Music was better than the last in my opinion, not to discredit previous shows, but I throughly enjoyed this edition. A lot of talented artist were displaying their work, the artist included Wizzy Wow, Koby Martin, Marco Polo, Mathew Vieira and The Illestrator. 

I particular liked Koby Martin one of his pieces caught my attention,the canvas showed a newborn baby floating with an Astronaut. I liked this picture because it was unusual it made me think hard, what could the idea behind it be. My thoughts lead me to think it was about mankind and destruction. Babies represent purity and new life whereas an Astronaut represents planets, rockets and to some degree missiles. Other than attempting to decode the painting I think the talent behind the art is incredible, the detail and colouring shows passion.

Another artist that caught my attention was Marco Polo, his work is quite different from Koby Martin. Marco Polo's work is more relaxed, what you see is what you get. The pictures convey a message to you straight away. The art speaks to you through its caption, speech bubbles and the identifiable person Marco Polo decided to paint.

As well as art on display there were talented musicians and poets, a young man named Samuel King graced the microphone with hard hitting spoken word. His poem 'Being a Gentleman',really intrigued me he spoke about the qualities of a man. He spoke about how in todays society these values of a man have become lost.

18-21st September 2014: Vodafone London Fashion Weekend - Fydoor Golan

Following on from the festivities of London Fashion Week I attended Vodafone London Fashion Weekend which was from the 18th-21st September. 

I wanted to attend all the days but was unable to, there were a lot of great designers this year showcasing their new collections. However I was so pleased by what I did see on day 2(19th) two words - Fydoor Golan.

Fydoor Golan, the name originates from a mix of the two designers names Fydoor Podgorny and Golan Frydman. Fydoor and Golan have different cultural and fashion backgrounds, but both met whilst in London. Combined they have worked for Alexander McQueen, Issy Miyake, Richard Nicoll and Raf Simons.

Judging by their collection the fashion houses they've worked for are of no surprise. In their collection which is based around sportswear and luxury womenswear I could notice influences from Raf Simons and Alexander McQueen. One of the pieces in their collection is a FG Hologram Sweatshirt, instantly I began to think about Raf Simmons footwear. 

Matching up one of their Hologram FG sweatshirts with a pair Raf Simons Holographic Space Sneakers could be a match made in heaven. Aside from the FG Sweatshirts I did really like their collection, the models embodied the tailored sports wear look fabulously.

To conclude I had a great day out at VLFW, there was lots to do - shopping, pictures, talks by industry people (fashion, make-up and hair) of course catwalks.

The Black Market - Who Is PBGR?

Without sounding bias I think PBGR's album 'The Black Market' is one of the best albums to come out this year in UK HipHop. The album was released on August 31st and since it's release it has received great feedback. Feedback not just from friends and fans, but other UK Hip Hop artist including Mr Bigz and Ghetts.

The album has something to offer everybody regardless of your musical background. You have up tempo songs which you can enjoy whilst at a club. As well as mellow songs which you can enjoy whilst at home.

I have listened to the album many times and still can't decide what my favourite song is. I can say that I love SMW, Cross The Line and the interlude for Second Chance. Each song tell us a story, its an opening to the duos thoughts and feeling on women, relationships,society and the music industry.

PBGR  is made up of Crunch and Swarve,their talent compliments each other well. The duo are both from East London and met whist in university. Before forming and becoming PBGR, Crunch and Swarve had always been involved in music. 

PBGR are just one arm of Play Broke Nation, Play Broke Nation is the label PBGR come under. After attending 'The Black Market' cinema album launch I saw that Play Broke Nation have a lot to offer the music and lifestyle world.

One To Watch: Debrah Rose - Superwoman

Up until about 2 weeks ago Debrah Rose was not an artist I was familiar with. I was at an event with a friend and she introduced me to Debrah's music and I'm very glad she did.

Her debut single Superwoman is a song that really strikes on the emotions individuals face when in relationships. It talks about drawing on the strength of a woman and loving her, allowing her to be your Superwoman.  The chorus had me singing and dancing ' S on my chest, I'm coming to save you. S on my chest, give me your heart'. Superwoman really shows Debrah's diverse vocal range.  Her sound which she describes as Afrosoul reminded me of a sound which is infused with a bit of Brandy, Lauryn Hill and Mary J Blige. 

I was lucky enough to recently meet Debrah and she told me a bit about her future career plans and what we can expect from her for the rest of this year. From the sounds of it she will be contributing a lot to UK Afrobeats.

For about 2 weeks I haven't been posting any new music, reviews, event details or Youtube videos due to the fact that I've been working hard and developing the blog.

A few things in the pipeline include a new website! Yes as of November the blog will be no more. The website will be more informative, detailed and more reflective of BloTV.

Scorcher '1 Of 1' Interview: Past, Present and Future

1.  What’s the first thing you do in the morning, do you have a morning routine? 

No real routine, just wake up when my son jumps on me, take care of him and then get to work. 

2.  Before you started rapping - what did you imagine yourself doing? 

I never really imagined doing anything else, this is what I've always done. I really like football though, so maybe that. 

3. Knowing what you know about the music industry now - what advice would you have given to yourself when you released your first mixtape? 

Just to stay true and real to myself and make good music. You have to work hard, you get out, what you put in.

4. You’ve been around for a long time and seen the development of the grime scene - in your opinion what has been the biggest change? 

The scene has matured now and people are making all types of creative music which is more than capable of charting now and having success in it's own right. We're nowhere near as old as the U.S urban scene, but it's definitely developing and growing over here. 

5. What has been the biggest change in your music/sound since your first mixtape ‘Simply the best’ to now your E.P ‘1 of 1’?

I'd say that my sound has just developed as I've grown as a person. I rap about what happens in my life so my music is on that journey with me. 

6. Your newest song ‘Work Get It’ off ‘1 of 1’ features Wretch 32, Ari & Mercston - How did this collabo come about? 

We're all just real mates and we're always just chatting and supporting each others careers anyway, this is just an extension of that. 

7. The video for Work Get it - is different from your videos, what was the direction of this video? 

When we all meet up, we always have fun and when we all did our fire in the booth on 1xtra people loved the vibe of that and I wanted to capture that in a single / video format. 

8. What can fans expect to hear from the rest of the ‘1 of 1’ E.p? 

1 of 1 is different, it has a variety of records on there which are all 1 of 1 of their own kind. You have to hear it to fully get it ;) 

9. When will ‘1 of 1’ be out? 

1 of 1 is released alongside the B side record of 'Work Get It’ in early August.

10.  Which other artist feature? 

I wanted to concentrate on myself and telling my own stories so we didn't go bonkers with the features but there are a couple of good ones on there ;) 

11. What shows/ gigs / performance can we you can your fans looking forwarding to seeing you at?

Hey Guys,

So the BloTV tour continued and we headed to a Social Architeks event called Art Meets Music.

We had a really good time, it was a fun night full of good energy and people who are appreciative of the creative world.

There was performance and art show casing, usually in these circumstances performances would still the night. Powerful voice usually captivate my attention, however it was the was work of Tom Paice which actually caught my attention.

I think it is amazing that in a few hours someone can produce such detailed and accurate reflections of characters.

Keeping You Updated : Former X-Factor Judge Tulisa Found Guilty Of Assault - Nicki Minaj- Bikinis & Jordan's

This a quick post to give you an update of some of the news we've received.

Tulisa, Former X-Factor Judge has been found guilty today at Stratford Magistrates of assaulting a celebrity blogger in the eye at V-Festival last year.

Trouble seems to be following Tulisa recently, first there was the incident with Mike GLC, although the singer was not convicted of any charges, who wants all that stress? We hope that we will hear a lot more positive news from and about Tulisa in the next coming months.

Nicki, Nicki, Nicki, Can't you see?.. this Anaconda cover is hypnotising me! 

Yes, Miss Minaj just killed us and the internet with this new single cover for her song, Anaconda. Bikini and Jordan's, the cover is racey, raunchy and different, it grabs attention and created a nice buzz for the rapper. We can't wait to see the video for the song - if this is the cover then imagine the video?

The "Best Man" Movie - Returns To Our Screens Again, Release Date Set And Movie Title Ready

The "Best Man' will be returning to our screens on the 15th April 2016, Universal set the date and the third film will be called The 'Best Man' Wedding. 

10 years after the release of The 'Best Man', we were happy to hear about the release of The Best Man Holiday back in 2013. The 'Best Man' Holiday did exceptionally well,  the film generated amazing sales in its opening at the box office, with figures of $30 Million dollars.

We would expect the cast members who were in the The 'Best Man' Holiday to be in the new film, but you never know what or who might get changed up.

When The 'Best Man' Wedding comes out, I hope they leave it alone. Not all films need a continuation, sometimes it can ruin a classic.

I for one am excited to see The 'Best Man' Wedding, we will keep you updated with further news on the film.

BloTV Heads To UK Hip Hop Festival Boom Bap

Hey Guys,

so we just got back from the Hip Hop festival, Boom Bap and it was amazing! Judging by my trainers you can tell I got stuck into the festivities.

Having never been to a solely Hip Hop festival we were unsure of what to expect, however we were so happy to see it was a festival full of good vibes and happy people.

As soon as we began our journey, we heard lovers of the festival retelling their stories from previous years. I for one was excited to see what the day would have in store for us, it was a day full of surprises to say the least.

When we got to the stadium we saw very long lines and high energy, people were already having a good time from the line. Beer cans, cigarette buds and the sound of music with a lot of bass.

We went through and got our press passes and were ready to explore the festival. When we got into the festival it was pretty much empty. The stages were still being set up, stall owners were setting up and food was being cooked.

We used this as an opportunity to speak to some of the VIP festival goers, this included the acts, graffiti artists, stall owners and other members of press. A lot of people were camera shy which was understandable, while others were more than happy to talk for hours if we had enough battery life. We kick started the conversations with people with the question "What are your thoughts on Hip Hop?" It was interesting to hear the passion and love some of these festival goers had for Hip Hop. It was deeper than the music.

As time was passing, the queues began to get shorter, people were finally being allowed to come and the stage was complete.

Acts began to come on stage and people who had sorted out their tents began to drift to the different stages. Despite not initially not having huge crowds the acts gave great performances, high energy and high quality performances.

I wish we would have been able to stay at the festival longer to not only captivate more of the amazing things that happened at the festival, but also to enjoy the great atmosphere. Boom Bap is definitely not a one day festival, you need to attend all three days to enjoy how great it is.

Next year we will definitely be attending everyday and will be camping with everyone, I had my worries about camping. However I was reassured by a Hip Hop loving Aussie who said "Argos is your best friend, sleeping bags for as little as £13.99"

We would definitely recommend Boom Bap as a festival to go to next year, also we will put a few more photos from Boom Bap a little later.
